The world is broken. By this, I do not mean that the world isn’t working. (Although it certainly is true that it could be working much better!) Rather, I mean that everywhere we look we see division, separation, disconnection. Estrangement is the plague of our day. Whether in families, communities, or on the world stage, people (and peoples) are breaking apart.
In ages past, separation was largely a byproduct of geographical fact—the result of intervening oceans, for example, and mountain ranges, and languages that kept us apart. However, in a world where technological advances have shrunk the impact of physical and other barriers to historic lows, estrangement without is a manifestation of estrangement within. When we separate today—whether in our personal lives or on the world stage—we separate by choice.
I invite you to join me in learning about this choice and in learning to make it better. Resulting from a deep philosophical inquiry over a period of decades, my work with The Arbinger Institute amounts to a language with which to understand how it is that we as human beings separate ourselves from each other, why, when we do separate, we believe it is the fault of others, how we therefore condemn ourselves to lingering divisions and resentment, and how this estrangement can be overcome.
At this event, you will learn Arbinger’s powerful language for understanding and transforming human interaction. You will learn how you are choosing division or connection in every moment, and how the choice affects you and those around you—your family members, for example, your friends, and your colleagues. Most importantly, you will learn what to do about it and will discover how to begin being an agent of peace in every interaction. I look forward to being with you!
