An Inconvenient Truth
Yesterday we went to see An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's documentary on global warming. He depicts, in a truly perfect presentation as only Americans know how, the bleak consequences of humankind's uncontrolled spewing of carbondioxide into the atmosphere. He is very clear about two things: there is no doubt in any of the scientific reports that CO2 is at unprecedented high levels pushing up temperatures in relation and that the cause of it all is us.
His story both frightens and empowers. If we continue unchanged nature will certainly strike back with heavy storms, extreme temperatures and excessive flooding. However, the power to create a new and better scenario for the world is in our hands. I like this idea. We are being offered a one-off chance to come together in mind and heart to work in concert. New age books often mention the connectedness and oneness of people. The environmental crisis looming over us now is the test case encouraging us to really be one.
For that to happen I see a great shift in our collective awareness. We will re-evaluate what is important to us and live accordingly. We will gain deep understanding of how our innerworld is directly linked to our outer world. We will appreciate what life and nature has to offer us on a constant basis. We will feel the deeper connection we have with all others. An inconvenient truth opens the door to a celebration of life.
